Excellent product – the reviews are true!
I bought this product recently after borrowing my neighbors 3 year old Black and Decker Leaf Hog. His unit worked so well that I wanted to get one just like it, but then I looked at the latest ratings in Consumer Reports and decided to try the Toro Ultra model (51599), as it was top rated and considered a best buy. I’m glad I did! Without repeating everything already said, let me point out a few things that I found and appreciate about this unit. Note that this review discusses this unit in vacuum mode only. I did use it as a blower also and can say it worked great, but my primary reason for buying it was to get as much leaves into the yard waste bags as I could.

Pros (in vacuum mode):

The metal empeller works great at handling small twigs. The instructions say to avoid twigs, but that’s not realistic in most circumstances.

This unit handles my sweet gum balls whereas the older Leaf Hog I borrowed would just rattle the ball around until you shut it off to let it drop out. With the Toro, it does rattle around some but then it goes through if I follow it with some more leaves.

This unit will suck up pine needles better than the older Leaf Hog.

The bag is very easy to empty. I worked out a system where I put the entire collection bag in the paper yard waste bag, then reach in and unzip it to release the contents fairly easily. I get two loads into each paper bag. With the older Leaf Hog, it sometimes took a little work to get the bag empty. (In the process I found that the yard waste bags purchased from Walgreens work much better than those from Walmart. The Walmart bags seemed to tear very easy, while the Walgreens bags could handle much more tugging while filing it.)

Switching between blower and vacuum mode is very easy. It does take a moment but probably less than a minute. There may be some units that can be swithced faster but I can’t imagine it being a lot faster given how quick and easy this one is.

The compaction ratio is very good. It may not be 16 to 1 but I would bet it’s at least 8 to 1 in normal circumstances. (They probably did get 16 to 1 in their product testing by choosing the right leaves, and going very slow to allow the impeller to work better.) Still, it churns the leaves up plenty fine for me and saves me lots of yard waste bags (which is especially nice during the parts of the year where my local collection service charges by the bag).

Cons (in vacuum mode):

One thing I did prefer about the older Leaf Hog I had borrowed was the comfort of the bag and strap while vacuuming. With the Toro, the bag hangs okay but it flops around a bit more.

The other thing that seemed to work better was the cord management, but I found if I drape the cord over the back of the bag it stays out of the way pretty good.

Note that in this review I’m referring to an older model Leaf Hog for comparison, not the current model. I don’t know anything about the current model except that Consumer Reports ranked it in about the middle, which is why I tried the Toro first.

Overall, this is an excellent unit and I highly recommend it!

electric powered is the better of two evils
works well, length of cord required results in annoying tangling of the cord but less of an hassle that than mixing gas. I use several shorter cords so when knots occur it is easier to untangle. The plug sometimes falls out while walking around but that can be reduced by tyoing the cord through or to the handle.

Very glad I bought this one
I hesitated to spend the extra money, but the other reviews convinced me that it would be money well spent. They are right. What a well engineered product. Changing from blower to vac is a snap. The continuously variable speed speed makes it easy to vacuum leaves from flower beds with mulch and from gravel walkways. The metal impeller has held up well. The blower/nozzle combination creates enormous power for moving piles of leaves. The unit is light weight, well balanced and generally quiet (except at the very highest speeds). I would buy it again in a heartbeat and wish other products were designed and engineered so well.

Good heat, small package
Bought one for my girlfriend to use in her bathroom for extra heat when showering. Works great, lots of heat for a small heater. Only dislike is the shallow depth of the carry handle. But when the handle is the only gripe, you know this has to be rated a good buy.

If they offered this with a built in timer to automatically kick on a few minutes early for the morning shower… nirvana.

Good for the price
This heater is really hot within 3 feet of the front, and does a good job of warming a small room(about 120 sq ft) the thermostat can be difficult to get to work properly, but just turning it off when the room is as warm as you want isnt hard.

Lasko Ceramic Heater
Lasko warms nicely but thermostat is such that heater stays on a long time (5 minutes or more) but doesn’t come back on for a long time, maybe 30-60 minutes. It’s the opposite of another heater I have which comes on frequently for a short time each cycle. So with the Lasko you get almost too warm by the time the thermostat shuts it off, but temperature in room has to drop quite a bit for the thermostat to turn it back on. I find myself manually turning it on and off via thermostat.

Nice light
The color temperature of the LCD lights seems to illuminate the Kindle screen perfectly. Easy to use one-button operation allows two brightness levels. 3 AAA batteries last a long time. Fits well in the spine of my Executive leather kindle folio so the cover closes completely.

The goose neck hanging out can be awkward at times, but you get used to it.

Short and sweet
This light is absolutely perfect for what I wanted it for. And that is reading when the natural light isn’t good enough. It works perfectly.

A fun, light read that’s not just for teens.
At first, I wasn’t sure what to make of Bella. As a seventeen-year-old with divorced parents, I thought her quite mature… considering she had pretty much fended for herself and her mother, who is very forgetful and eccentric. And now she’s going to visit her father in his small hometown of Forks, Washington. She doesn’t want to go – she hates it there – but she’s determined.

While she makes friends easily enough, but for some reason becomes fascinated with Edward Cullen. He, and his brothers and sisters, aren’t like the rest of the students, and for some strange reason, he seems to dislike her – extremely. And she can’t figure out what she’s done to be on the receiving end of such dislike. But what she doesn’t know is that Edward is attracted to her as well, and is fighting it; fighting it hard.

As their relationship grows, Bella figures out what Edward really is: a vampire. Does it frighten her? Not in the least. Edward doesn’t frighten her at all. She wants to know more about him and his family, for the more time they spend together, the more she’s falling in love with him. And he is falling in love with her.

But she’s determined to get to know him, and fighting it was futile for Edward. And so, he showed her – everything but feeding. I was kind of glad about that – may have been too soon for a first novel, I think.

It was fun watching their relationship grow. I think my favourite part was in the restaurant, where, no matter how much the waitress flirted, Edward only had eyes and attention for Bella. He reminded me very much of my husband, who does the exact same thing. He takes me to restaurants to spend time with me, away from home and kids, not flirt with the staff. I like that and can’t get enough of it.

I liked the idea of being in Bella’s head while you’re experiencing everything with the main character. You’ll find Edward just as complex as Bella does. The writing is clear and precise, easy to follow (almost a little too easy). However, I think there could have been more…

Bella has Edward and quite a few males in her class drooling over her, even though she doesn’t find herself pretty. I think the author should boost her self-esteem a little. Sure, everyone complains about their looks, but I was kind of getting tired of Bella’s reaction and non-reaction. Edward and his family are portrayed as `perfect’. I think the author should have added flaws for them… perfect becomes very boring very quickly and I was getting tired reading about perfect hair, perfect eyes, perfect body, perfect everything. I found that, by the middle of the book, I had to force myself a little too keep going; my attention was wandering. As a bookaholic, that’s not a good thing for me. I need substance, action, a little more intrigue, to keep me going.

Despite that, I thought it a light, fun read. Did I like it? Sure, for what it was. Will I continue with the series? More than likely… I’m curious to see where the series goes.

A Great Book!
Yes, I’m a kid, a year away from being a teen. I normally stay away from scary books, because I get scared of things easily. But my friend thought that I would like this book, so I ordered it, and I don’t like it… I love it! It’s an amazing book filled with drama, excitement, romance, and action. I’m on the third one, and can’t wait to read the fourth. Hope I helped!
